Winter Welcome to Virginia

Winter Welcome to Virginia
First winter in Virginia in 33 years and this is what it looks like

About Me

I am a special education teacher taking a year off. My husband was recently transferred to Virginia, which is where we are from and met 33 years ago. It is like coming home but enjoying a new environment at the same time. I am working as a special education assistant, so I can stay in the educational loop, just NO lesson plans!

Is Spring around the corner?

I do hope I can replace the winter picture above with a sunny first day of spring one.  We'll see Saturday.  I am ready to get my boat out of a deep winter sleep and race the waterways.

Learning that Technology

I just finished my first cyper-conference.  It was very interesting and just extremely overwhelming.  There is an amazing amount of stuff on the web.  School is not the same! The most frustrating thing is it is difficult to learn how to use everything on your own.  Will I see more snow?  Hope not, ready to change my picture.

Using Technology

I started this mainly to practice my computer skills.  I have just spent too much time and not successfully trying to change the font on the tab for the page I did successfully create.  Will try again tomorrow.

The Aftermath of a Snow Storm

The snow is slowly melting, resulting in messy mud.  The gravel in the drive way is peeking out of the dirty snow making hills all around.  It certainly doesn't look like the serene picture above.  But will it matter next week with the call for another snow storm?  I will be prepared with a pile of wood for the little stove downstairs, food that can be cooked on the grill, and I already have the D batteries for the radio.  There are many trees that are not standing back up, and one has decided to slowly lend towards the dock.  If we don't get it in time it will land on the dock and take one of the boat bow lines with it.  I think one tree falling on the dock was enough!  I wished I had  bought some boots.  Ah, it is raining, maybe it will wash the snow away.

Winter

School started back only to have a two hour delay on Tuesday.  The snow fell again Monday, but just an inch.  In South Carolina an inch would shut the schools down!  It is very cold and is going to stay that way for a while.  I wonder just how much snow until spring?

The power stayed on, little snow, ice, and wind, but the temperature stayed very low.  We finished out this week school-less.  Lost those fun days off on a Monday and Friday and added an extra day to the end of the year. Ah, but winter is not over.  A thank you to my neighbor for bring his tractor from his farm, so he could shovel us out.  The sun is shining, a day to enjoy.

Another snow day!  I have never been out of school this long.  Cabin Fever at it's highest.  So far this month we have gone to school 1 out of 8 days and that was a two hour delay.  I will be more than ready to see the sunshine promised for tomorrow, and actually hope to beable to go to work.  The wind is the worry today, and I can only hope the power stays on.

Welcome. This is my second blogging adventure. My first one was with my special education class. My students and I really enjoyed it and so I thought I would try one on my own.
Currently I am snowbound waiting for up to another 8 inches today. This is apparently a record snow fall for central Virginia. Wished it didn't wait until I finally came back to live here to happen.
